When to Provide Feedback
Feedback should be provided on a regular basis to the subordinate leader. The feedback reviews the subordinate leader’s demonstrated performance and potential. There are different times when feedback should be provided:
- Initial counseling – used to describe the expected relationship between the leader and the subordinate
- Periodic performance feedback – a joint responsibility to discuss what is working well and what needs improvement, recommended every 90 days
- Evaluation – a formal write-up with discussion to be placed in the subordinate’s records
In this video, COL Buche further describes when feedback should be provided.
