The LARC Card

The Leadership Assessment Reference Card (LARC) is another tool that leaders/trainers/mentors at all levels can use to tie observations back to leadership doctrine. You can learn more about the LARC card in the interaction below.

When should I use it?

This tool can be used at any time in any situation from Combat Training Center rotations to Garrison operations in order to observe leadership attributes and competencies and record behavior.

You can also use this tool over a period of time, as not all attributes and competencies will necessarily be observable during a single event.

How should I use it?

Use this tool as a quick reference to doctrinally reflect on observed behavior. You can use your observations to assist in the development of an OER/NCOER, multi-source leadership assessment, Individual Development Plan, or anything else related to assessing leadership, providing feedback, and guiding a leader.

This tool should not be used to justify the elimination of an individual from service or other administrative personnel action; it is meant as a tool for positive development of the observed individual for continued service.

The file below provides a blank LARC card for your use.
