Purpose/ Scope |
Extremity hemorrhage continues to be the leading cause of death on the battlefield and the nature of wounding caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and Vehicle Born IEDs are significant contributors to this fact. The Combat Application Tourniquet ® System (CATS) (NSN 6515-01-521-79766) is the tourniquet of choice for issue to individual Soldiers. It is lightweight, easy-to-use, and could be the primary factor in saving a life on the battlefield. Training in the use of CATS is available in multiple forms: a video, a multimedia Training Support Package (TSP), and a printable instruction sheet. These materials will provide combat troops with accurate, curent information on CATS and will give Soldiers a step-by-step look at how to use this life-saving device. |
