5-1 Check for Shock

The fourth step is to check for shock. If any of the following signs or symptoms of shock are present, stop the evaluation and begin treatment. (See the task Prevent Shock, task number 081-831-1005).

  • Sweaty but cool skin.
  • Paleness of skin.
  • Restlessness or nervousness.
  • Thirst.
  • Loss of Blood.
  • Confusion.
  • Faster than normal breathing rate.
  • Blotchy or blush skin, especially around the mouth.
  • Nausea and/or vomiting.
