5-1 Check for Head Injuries


The seventh step is to check for head injuries.
Look for the following signs and symptoms.

  • Unequal pupils.
  • Confusion.
  • Headache.
  • Vomiting.
  • Loss of memory of consciousness.
  • Staggering while walking.
  • Convulsions or twitches.
  • Fluid from the ear(s), nose, mouth, or
    injury site.
  • Slurred speech.
  • Sleepiness.
  • Dizziness.
  • Paralysis.

If a head injury is suspected, continue to
watch for sign which would require
performance of mouth-to-mouth
resuscitation, treatment for shock, or
control of bleeding.
